Kyiv City Council deputy and founder of the Darnychany Foundation, Hryhorii Malenko, has said that all 14 generators delivered to Kyiv as part of cooperation with Taiwan in 2023 are currently operating at full capacity, providing backup power to boiler houses across several districts of the capital.

This was reported by FaceNews.ua, citing Malenko’s Facebook post.

How the generators were delivered

According to Malenko, by late autumn 2022 it had become clear that Russia would systematically target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in an attempt to leave cities without power and heating. At that time, the Darnychany Foundation, with the support of Kira Rudik, who initiated contact with Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed a memorandum of cooperation and reached an agreement on the supply of generators.

He stressed that these were industrial-scale units, not small household generators, capable of supporting critical urban infrastructure. The first generators were handed over to Kyivteploenergo in January 2023 and put into operation in Kyiv.

Critical role after the January 9, 2026 attack

Malenko recalled that on January 9, 2026, Kyiv came under a massive missile and drone attack. Damage to energy networks, freezing temperatures, and heavy system loads pushed the situation to a critical level. Utility services were working in emergency mode to restore power to key facilities, and in such conditions, he said, every backup power source was “worth its weight in gold.”

After checking the status of the original delivery, Malenko confirmed that all 14 “Taiwanese” generators, with a total capacity of about 5.8 MW, are operating at 100%.

Where the generators are working

According to the post, the generators currently supply power to district and neighborhood boiler houses in:

  • Darnytskyi District,

  • Dniprovskyi District,

  • Sviatoshynskyi District,

  • Solomianskyi District,

  • as well as central areas of Kyiv.

As a result, more than 300 residential buildings and social infrastructure facilities are receiving heat thanks to this support.

Thanks to Taiwan and broader assistance

Malenko also noted that cooperation with Taiwan went beyond generators. The foundation’s team later brought ambulances, fire engines, and dozens of pickup trucks to Ukraine for those who needed them most.

He concluded by expressing sincere gratitude to the people of Taiwan “for their foresight and solidarity,” emphasizing that real support is measured not by statements, but by the fact that Kyiv continues to withstand the challenges.
