With data from 93.35% of polling stations, Aliyev secured 92.05% of the votes. Zakhid Oruj, who came in second, received 2.19% of the votes.
The opposition party, Azerbaijan Popular Front (APF), declared that it does not recognize the results of the snap presidential elections.
"There were no real elections since they were held without competition, in an atmosphere of fear, threats, and administrative terror. The announced results do not represent the will of the people and are illegitimate," stated the APF.
According to exit polls, the incumbent president preliminarily received 93.9% of voter support, while none of the other six candidates garnered even 2%.
Aliyev unexpectedly announced early presidential elections in December 2023, even though he could have remained in office until 2025.
Due to the refusal to admit observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to the elections, political sanctions were imposed on Azerbaijan.
However, the Azerbaijani delegation decided to withdraw from the PACE on its own, not waiting for a decision.
