According to him, the suspect was apprehended in Khmelnytskyi region. Security forces traced his movements less than 24 hours after the crime and managed to detain him within 36 hours.
“The crime was meticulously planned: the victim’s schedule was studied, a route was mapped, and an escape plan prepared. The SBU and police demonstrated a high professional level,” Klymenko stated.
Government’s Response
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the suspect has already given initial testimony. He added that the investigation is under his personal control and urgent investigative actions are ongoing.
Circumstances of the Crime
Andriy Parubiy was shot dead on August 30 in Lviv, as he was walking to a gym on Yefremova Street. The attacker, dressed in a courier uniform, approached him from behind and opened fire. Seven shell casings were found at the scene, though police believe there may have been up to eight shots fired.
Investigators have not disclosed much information regarding the motives. Among the possible leads being considered is a “Russian trace.”
Farewell Ceremonies
Parubiy was 54 years old. On Sunday, September 1, a memorial service will be held at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv. Later that evening, a vigil will take place at Kyiv’s Independence Square.
The funeral is scheduled for September 2: at 12:00 the funeral service will begin at St. George’s Cathedral, followed by a public farewell ceremony at Rynok Square. Andriy Parubiy will then be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
