SMArt 155 in action: the use of high-precision munitions for the destruction of raiders is gaining mass

The SMArt 155 ammunition allows you to destroy two targets at once with one shot

A new video using the German SMArt 155 ammunition, which is designed for point destruction of enemy armored vehicles, has appeared on the Internet. This projectile carries two separate sub-munitions that separate from the carrier in the target area.

They are equipped with a combined radar and infrared homing head and search for a target while descending on parachutes. As soon as the target enters the sight, the sub-munition detonates and fires a "shock core" - an impact element accelerated to a speed of more than 5000 m/s.

And this is already the second public video of his use of the SMArt 155 projectile. The first case was published by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the beginning of July . Then the Russian anti-aircraft missile-gun complex "Pantsir-S1" was hit, but the quality of the video did not allow to accurately identify the projectile, because there is a similar French ammunition 155 BONUS, which has a similar algorithm of action, but uses winglets.

SMArt 155 is now much easier to identify. At the same time, this is far from the only high-precision artillery ammunition in service with the Armed Forces. In particular, it is known that Canada transferred high-precision M982 Excalibur. When fired at 40 km, this projectile has a proven deviation of only a few meters.

At the same time, the list of high-precision means of destruction by artillery fire for our guns will soon be replenished with one more ammunition, considering everything - M1156 PGK . Although in fact it is not a full-fledged separate ammunition, but only a means to turn any 155 projectile into a high-precision one, because it is only a special unit with satellite navigation and aerodynamic rudders for trajectory correction.

According to the calculations of specialists in the Pentagon, one such projectile performs a task that requires the expenditure of 10-50 ordinary 155-mm projectiles. In practice, this means more destroyed targets with a smaller number of shells, which allows you to save the resource of the gun, as well as the ability to maneuver more often.

PS There is an opinion on the network that in both videos, after all, the French 155 BONUS ammunition is similar in principle. But it would be quite difficult to see an object with a diameter of 15 cm on a video with the available quality.

In particular, for filming 155 BONUS for the promo video, it was necessary to use a special high-speed camera with a powerful zoom. And on the shots from the drone (at 01:07), which are in much better quality, the submunition is not visible at all.
