In the Luhansk region, one of the best educational institutions in the region, the Lysychansk Gymnasium, burned down. It was built by the Belgians more than a hundred years ago.

This was announced on May 2 by the head of the Regional State Administration (OBA) Serhiy Haidai.

The school was built in the late XIX century, it is part of the ensemble of Belgian architectural heritage Lysychansk and was considered one of the hundreds of the best in the country. Lysychansk Multidisciplinary Gymnasium has repeatedly been included in the ranking of the best educational institutions in Ukraine, its graduates have always passed the external evaluation with high performance and entered the best higher educational institutions in the country.

The gymnasium withstood two world wars and the battle for the city in 2014, but burned down due to the actions of the occupiers in 2022. Gaidai says that a fire broke out there several days ago as a result of targeted shelling.

However, the head of the OBA promises that after the victory he will make every effort to restore the gymnasium.

The situation in the Luhansk region

In the Luhansk region during the past day there were 18 shellings of the occupiers, 28 houses were destroyed. Three dead, three wounded. Among the victims is a minor child.
